Played through the game several times and still have it installed and the developer support was just next level in terms of DLC and content. On top of that combat felt weighty and had a real sense of catharsis to it. The enemies proved to be very weak individually but hordes could be a real genuine threat (as should be the case with zombies) and the enhanced night zombies added a real weight and fear to the day night cycle and required the player to change their day time combat tactics for a whole new set of evasive tactics at night. Better open world that didn't use very weak artificial gating mechanics to limit player progression to specific areas as Dying Light 2 did and Dead Island 2 doesn't look to be open world at all. It's far more complicated and engaging than Dead Island 2 lending itself to more tactics and options while not going to the levels of superfluous that Dying Light 2 introduced.
Dying Light 1 is still the best of the genre.
